Ubuntu 8.04

29 March, 2008 (13:09) | Tehchnology | By: Kyle Weber

Looks like it is that time of year again!  Another great update from our friends at Ubuntu.  Version 8.04 is going to be out very soon, and since Ubuntu has been doing such a great job of running my website (and for free i might add!) I thought I’d take the opportunity to give it a plug.  Check it out.

Fun With Google

18 March, 2008 (12:10) | Tehchnology | By: Kyle Weber

Google often provides us with a little touch of entertainment in our lives. Although this works with web browsers, the simplified response on cell phones makes it a little more enjoyable.

1. On your cell phone, create a new text message. The number for the message is 466-453. For the body of the message do (without quotes) “Define google”. Send.

2. After you have read the response, do another message to the same number, but this time do “Define yahoo”. Send.

Hopefully this will give you a bit of a laugh as it did for me.

Lessons Learned…

14 March, 2008 (23:06) | Tehchnology | By: Kyle Weber

While setting up my linux server running Ubuntu in VMWare Fusion to perform automated backups, I found no matter what I could not get it to log onto my macs side with key-based SSH authentication.  So after an archive and install and a few hours on the phone / over iChat with Jesse, we found the problem was something very simple–the permissions on my keys folder was 777 instead of 755.  A few quick commands in the terminal and it was back in business…  Computers are that way though–a problem that can last all day to solve takes about three seconds to fix.

Riding with a friend… Snowmobile Major Breakdown…

5 March, 2008 (21:33) | Personal | By: Kyle Weber

Michael Bonham StuckOver the weekend, my friend Michael Bonham and I went home to ride snowmobiles for the weekend. On Saturday, March 1st, we were on a ride headed for Stump Peak. The day started out very beautiful, and though it was Michaels first time on a real ride he was doing very well at handling the sled. We were stopped playing on the second to last big climb before the peak while waiting for Matt Nelson to show up. I ran up the hill one last time, only to have my 800 make a loud bang and start ratcheting. Since cranks going out on a Polaris 800 is not that uncommon, I guessed that is what happened (which was correct). Needless to say when Matt arrived, he forgot to bring a rope, so he went home on the rental sled to get one. It started to snow so we took cover under a tree and drove around on Matt’s sled finding a different way around the mountain. To make a long story short, we eventually towed it home. It didn’t make for the greatest ride Mike could have been on, but we still had a lot of fun and got to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Last Saturday (and part of Friday night) was the annual Thayne Snow Days. The event is a community family event which features snowmobile jumping, drag races, and youth races. I had the privileged of being the photographer for the event. If you want to see photos for the event, just follow this link.

Hello World

Moonless Night ShotPalisaids ResivourI am still alive :) This semester has been very busy, so I’ve neglected to do a few things (including update this site). I went home to work and play last weekend, which was a lot of fun. This upcoming Saturday is the Thayne Snow Days, and I rode with my cousins kids (4 and 7) for a while while they practiced for the races. They were really cute and it will be fun watching them. That evening I also tried some night shots. They turned out okay but I am going to redo them this weekend if the weather is good and see if I can get some great shots. Other then that, I’ve just been busy with school. I’ve never really been this busy with school before–mostly because all of my classes are upper level classes.

Another Semester has Begun

BirdsWell, here we are again… First day of a new semester. My room mates seem pretty cool (and one of which I was with last semester), so I think it will be a pretty good semester. My classes are all pretty hard this semester, but I think if I do well it should be okay. Hopefully I will get to go home and do a lot of good riding too. They got a lot of nice snow while I was home over the break. I think we plan on going up stump, which should be fun as it is one of my favorite places. Only three more semesters of BYU-Idaho.

Been Busy With Winter!

Cousin MarcusFirst off, Happy New Year everybody! I hope this year is a great one and that I’m able to do a lot of great things and get a lot done. I’m sure I will be a lot of fun and hard work, and a year full of change.

I know I have not written anything for a while, so I will quickly try to explain myself and come up with some lame excuse for my laziness. Last semester ended, though at the end I was very busy. I came home and worked till the break (I work for the school district). Since then I have been busy playing on my snowmobile. I’ve also been able to do a lot of things with my little bro Carson, since we recently updated his website so head on over and take a look. I’ll try to post more in the next few rides and maybe get a few more outdoors pictures up.
